India-Pakistan T20 WC clash back on schedule after ICC intervention?
After days of uncertainty over the marquee India–Pakistan T20 World Cup match scheduled for February 15 in Colombo, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly softened its position following firm intervention by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The shift comes after the ICC rejected PCB’s attempt to invoke the ‘Force Majeure’ clause to boycott the Group A fixture.
According to The Indian Express, the PCB has now approached the ICC to initiate dialogue, indicating a move away from confrontation after facing potential regulatory and financial consequences.
What is ‘Force Majeure’?
‘Force Majeure’ is a contractual provision under the ICC’s Member Participation Agreement that allows a team to be excused from fulfilling an obligation due to unforeseeable and unavoidable circumstances such as war, natural disasters, or binding government orders. However, the clause requires the member board to prove that participation was genuinely impossible and that all reasonable steps were taken to mitigate the situation.
The ICC reportedly ruled that the PCB’s justification did not meet these criteria and warned of wider sporting, commercial, and governance repercussions if the clause was wrongly applied.

Pressure mounts on PCB
Following the ICC’s communication, the PCB softened its stance, with officials confirming that structured talks are now underway. Sri Lanka Cricket also urged Pakistan to reconsider, citing severe economic fallout and recalling past support extended to Pakistan cricket.
The development raises hopes that the high-voltage India–Pakistan clash will go ahead as scheduled next week.
