BCCI
In a significant step towards strengthening inclusive cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a structured support framework for the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI). The initiative aims to provide enhanced international exposure, assistance for home series, and access to quality venues, reinforcing the board’s commitment to broad-based development of the sport.
India’s visually impaired cricket teams have enjoyed extraordinary success over the past decade, clinching multiple men’s World Cup titles and scripting history with a maiden women’s World Cup triumph. Acknowledging both their achievements and the challenges they face, the BCCI has pledged support to strengthen opportunities for both the men’s and women’s squads.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas described the accomplishments of visually impaired cricketers as a matter of immense pride. He emphasised that inclusive growth remains central to the board’s vision and expressed hope that the initiative would empower athletes to pursue excellence while inspiring many others to embrace the sport.
Key Areas of Support
Under the new framework, the BCCI will focus on three core areas:
International Exposure: Financial assistance for international travel to two overseas tournaments annually for both men’s and women’s teams.
Home Series Support: Provision of accommodation for home and visiting teams during bilateral series held in India.
Venue Access: Access to BCCI-affiliated stadiums and grounds to ensure professional playing conditions for domestic and international fixtures.
Strengthening the Future
The BCCI has stated that it will work closely with CABI to implement these measures effectively. With structured backing now in place, Indian blind cricket stands poised for greater growth, visibility, and continued global success.
