Bihar have made history by appointing 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi as vice-captain for their first two matches of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, starting Wednesday. Sakibul Gani will lead the side, with Bihar set to face Arunachal Pradesh in their Plate League opener at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium from October 15. The Bihar Cricket Association announced the squad late on Sunday.

After failing to register a single win last season, Bihar were relegated to the Plate League.

Suryavanshi, who made his Ranji Trophy debut at just 12 during the 2023–24 season, has continued to break records. At 13, he became the youngest player ever to earn an IPL contract, joining the Rajasthan Royals, and later scored a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, becoming the youngest male cricketer (14) to score a T20 century — the second fastest in IPL history.
