Seventeen-year-old Sunny Subhash Fulmali from Lohegaon, Pune, has turned his life’s struggles into an inspiring success story. Living in a tent house with his parents and siblings, Sunny’s journey from poverty to the top of the Asian Youth Wrestling Championship podium in Bahrain is a tale of unshakable determination and relentless willpower.
Rising from Poverty to Pursue a Dream
Born into a family with limited means, Sunny’s father earns a living with a bull, while his mother sells needles and thread on the streets. Despite their hardships, Sunny never gave up on his dream. Originally from Beed, the family moved to Pune 15 years ago, building a small tent on the outskirts of Lohegaon. It was there, on a makeshift mud pit, that Sunny’s wrestling journey began.

A Family Built on Wrestling Spirit
Sunny’s father, Subhash Fulmali, a wrestler himself, passed on his passion to his sons. “My grandfather was a wrestler. My father trained me and my brothers,” Sunny shared. “Later, my coach adopted me and took care of my expenses for four to five years.” His brother Suraj added, “We live in a slum with no support. The government should help him, he’s made our family proud.”
Turning Struggles into Strength
Sunny’s gold medal in the 60 kg category at the Asian Youth Wrestling Championship is not just a victory for him but for every dreamer fighting against circumstance. His journey from a tent home in Pune to gold in Bahrain proves that dreams don’t need wealth, just willpower, hard work, and heart.
