Bhubaneswar: Odia athletes Dutee Chand and Jauna Murmu shined for India at the ongoing 2018 Asian Games here on Sunday.

Dutee missed the Gold medal by a whisker and settled for Silver medal by clocking 11.32 seconds in her 100m sprint event while Jauna Murmu also stormed into the finals of 400m hurdles by clocking 59.02 seconds.

Jauna reached the finals by clocking 59.02 seconds to take the fourth spot in Heat 1. Apart from Jauna, India's Anu Raghavan also finished at the third place in Heat 2.

Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal congratulated for her remarkable success in the Asian Games.

Taking to twitter, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Dutee for securing the silver medal for the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State (IC) for Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh and former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda also congratulated Dutee for her splendid performance.

Odisha Athletic Association (OAA) and Odisha Olympic Association have announced a cash award of Rs 50,000 each for Dutee for winning the medal.

India is currently placed in the eighth spot in the medal tally with 36 medals including seven gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Nine women and three male athletes from Odisha are representing India in Athletics, Hockey, Badminton, Gymnastics and Rowing at the Asian games.
