The Trophy Controversy

The Asia Cup trophy remains locked away at the ACC office in Dubai after a dramatic post-final standoff. Following India’s thrilling win over Pakistan, Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, protesting his alleged bias. In response, Naqvi canceled the presentation ceremony and instructed officials to remove the trophy from the venue.

BCCI’s Strong Reaction

During the ACC meeting on September 30, the BCCI condemned Naqvi’s behavior, asserting that the Asia Cup belongs to the ACC and must be handed to the rightful winners, India, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla emphasized that the trophy should have been presented immediately after the final.

Naqvi’s Defiant Stand

Despite issuing an apology to member boards, Naqvi refused to return the trophy, insisting that India’s captain must personally collect it from Dubai. The BCCI rejected this demand, calling it “unsportsmanlike” and “unacceptable.”

A Growing Rift

The incident has intensified cricketing tensions between India and Pakistan, overshadowing India’s hard-fought Asia Cup triumph and threatening to spill into international cricket diplomacy.
