Born in the state of Tamil Nadu in 1959, Nirmala Sitharaman is currently the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce & Industry and is a BJP Rajya Sabha Member. A post graduate in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, she also holds a PHD in Indo-European Textile Trade. After passing out from King George Medical College in Lucknow, he worked as a practicing surgeon in the United States for a long time. After returning to India, he set up the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre. Currently, he is the Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta Hospital. Till 1991, Dr Trehan was the personal surgeon of the President of India. In recognition of his lifetime contribution in the field of Medical Science, he has been awarded with Padma Shri, Padma Bibhushan and Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award.

Known for his bold and blatant statements, Dr Damodar Rout is a senior member in the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Born in 1942, Rout, who currently holds the portfolio of Excise and Co-operation in the Naveen Patnaik government, has been elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly for seven times. A veterinary doctor by profession, Rout was elected for the first time to the Assembly from Ersama constituency of Jagatsingpur district and made a minister of state in 1977 under the chief ministership of Nilamani Routray. Having been elected five times from Ersama and two times from Paradip constituency, Rout is a popular leader in the region. During his political career, he has effectively handled his responsibilities as minister at different times.
