Youth’s body recovered from farmland in Odisha's Rayagada; family alleges murder

In a grim discovery, the body of a youth was recovered from farmland on Monday near Baisinga village in Rayagada district. The deceased has been identified as Siddhanta Gantha, a local resident. According to information, Gantha had travelled to Rayagada town on Sunday for some work but failed to return home. His sudden disappearance had raised concern among family members.

On Monday morning, local residents noticed a body lying in agricultural land close to the village and immediately informed the family. Upon identifying the body as Siddhanta’s, grief-stricken relatives alleged that he had been murdered.

"The incident occurred last night, but we are not yet certain whether it was an accident or something else. This morning, locals informed us that a body was lying here, and we also noticed a bike at the spot. The deceased has been identified as Siddhanta Gantha, a resident of Baisinga. At present, there are suspicions surrounding the circumstances of his death,” said Krishna Tadingi, Sarpanch of Baisinga Panchayat.

Police reached the scene soon after receiving information and have initiated an investigation into the incident.

In a similar incident, the body of a young man was recovered under suspicious circumstances from inside a shop near IG Park in Bhubaneswar on 31 January 2026, triggering concern and tension among local residents. 

According to sources, the deceased was identified as Amar Khuntia, a resident of the Chhania area in Khordha district. The body was found inside a shop located in close proximity to the IG Park locality. After noticing the body, locals promptly informed the police, following which law enforcement authorities rushed to the spot.
