A youth was found murdered near Jogadhari Chhak in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur late on Friday night, prompting police to launch an investigation into the suspected case of personal enmity. The deceased has been identified as Gyana Ranjan Pothal, a resident of Pokapur village. He reportedly ran a betel shop close to the site where his body was discovered.

According to family members, Gyana Ranjan had not returned home by late evening, causing worry among relatives. His wife, along with a relative, went to look for him around 11 PM and found him lying dead with severe injuries.

Ramesh Mohanty, a relative of the deceased, said, “He ran a betel shop near Jogadhari Chhak. When he didn’t return home, his wife called my son, and they went to check on him. They found him lying dead with injuries. We are unaware if he had any enmity with anyone.”

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation to ascertain the motive behind the murder. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further inquiry is underway.

Police Investigation Underway

Police officials reached the scene after receiving information around 11:40 pm. 

Jagatsinghpur SDPO Ajinkya Mane said, “Our team immediately arrived at Jogadhari Chhak and secured the crime scene. We called for the forensic team and recovered a weapon suspected to have been used in the murder. The investigation is in progress. Although no prima facie conclusion has been drawn yet, arrests will follow once the cause of death and identity of the accused are established.”

Forensic Examination Underway 

The body was later sent for post-mortem examination. Police seized the weapon from the site and are verifying possible motives behind the killing, including any links to prior disputes.
