Youth Congress leader found dead with gunshot wound at Odisha’s Sonepur, probe underway
A Youth Congress leader was found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence in the Bhagabati Nagar area of Sonepur district late on Tuesday night, sending shockwaves across the region and political circles.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Mishra, a member of the District Congress Committee and an active Youth Congress leader. According to preliminary information, Mishra is suspected to have died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself in the head with his licensed revolver at around 1 am.
Family members and neighbours alerted the police after hearing a gunshot from the house. A police team rushed to the spot and recovered the licensed revolver from the scene. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police officials said the circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be determined. It remains unclear whether Mishra took the extreme step due to personal reasons or any other factors. Investigators are questioning family members, relatives and close associates as part of the ongoing inquiry.
