Youth caught attempting to rape 5-year-old, thrashed and handed over to police in Angul

A youth allegedly attempted to rape a five-year-old girl by luring her with money in Sibaramapur village under Talcher police station in Odisha’s Angul district on Sunday. 

However, locals caught the accused and thrashed him. The girl's family members later handed him over to the police.

The accused was identified as Ashok Behera, a resident of Sibaramapur village. Reports stated that Behera brought labourers from different places and engaged them in household work. 

On the day of the incident, Behera allegedly lured the daughter of a labourer from Keonjhar district and took her to a pump house situated behind the temple in the village.

However, nearby residents rushed to the spot after hearing the screams of the child and rescued her. They caught the accused, and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

Police Investigation Underway

A two-member forensic team from Angul visited the site along with Talcher police officials. They carried out further investigation at the pump house and surrounding areas. The team collected evidence and examined the location to support the inquiry.

The police was yet to issue any official statement regarding the incident or the progress of the investigation at the time of reporting.
