Youth attacked with sharp weapon after minor altercation in Odisha

In a tragic incident, a youth sustained serious injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon following a minor altercation at College Square in Odisha's Baripada on Thursday.

 The injured has been identified as Himanshu Barik.

According to sources, a heated argument broke out between a group of college students and some local youths at College Square. What initially began as a verbal dispute over the game of badminton soon escalated into violence. In the course of the confrontation, Himanshu Barik was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving him injured.

He was immediately rushed to Baripada Medical College and Hospital by some local residents for treatment. 

The injured youth has lodged a formal complaint at the local police station, naming eight individuals in connection with the attack.

Acting on the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused persons.

According to several local residents, incidents of hooliganism and unruly behaviour have been occurring in Baripada for the past few days, creating an atmosphere of fear and unease in the area. They alleged that groups of miscreants have been engaging in frequent altercations and disruptive activities, particularly in public places.

Despite these repeated incidents, residents claim that the local police have not taken adequate preventive measures to curb such activities.
