A young woman went missing on Thursday, allegedly after jumping into the Mahanadi river near Jobra Barrage in Cuttack City. It is said that the woman left her scooter on the bridge before jumping into the river, prompting immediate concern.

Rescue teams from the Fire Services are actively conducting search operations in the river to locate the missing woman. Authorities have confirmed that the woman is believed to be a resident of Jagatpur locality in the city.
Local police and emergency services have been coordinating efforts to intensify the search operation, appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the rescue.
The frantic search operation was underway till the fall of night, but the woman was yet to be traced. No comments were received from the local police in this regard.
Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a Class 9 girl student had reportedly jumped into the river Mahanadi from Chaurpur Bridge in Sambalpur district on August 24. She was later rescued by the Fire Services personnel after a frantic search.
The incident had come to light after a few passersby noticed a bicycle, a mobile phone, and a school bag lying unattended on the bridge. The bag contained a Class 9 question paper, through which the girl was identified as a student of Budharaja High School.
Moreover, police had also recovered a phenyl bottle from the school bag.
“The girl is a Class 9 student. We have given her free admission as she does not have her parents. She got books and a dress as per government norms. She was irregular to school,” headmistress of Budharaja High School, Subhrata Pati, had said.
