Woman, her son die within hours in Jeypore; village plunged into mourning

A wave of grief swept through Sunari Sahi in Jeypore town of Odisha’s Koraput district after a mother and her son died within hours of each other on Tuesday, leaving the locality in shock and mourning.

According to sources, the elderly woman, identified as Shibani, passed away in the early hours of the day after being unwell for nearly a week. She lived with her son and daughter at their residence in Sunari Sahi. Despite her age and illness, she was managing household responsibilities and caring for her mentally challenged daughter.

Son Dies Hours After Mother’s Death

Following his mother’s demise, Shibani’s son informed neighbours and relatives about the incident. Shortly thereafter, he reportedly collapsed inside the house. He was rushed for medical attention but was declared dead, with doctors citing cardiac arrest as the cause of death.

The back-to-back deaths of the mother and son within a short span plunged the family and the entire neighbourhood into deep sorrow.

Concern Over Daughter’s Future

With the deaths of both caretakers, Shibani’s mentally challenged daughter has been left alone. Relatives and local residents have expressed concern over her future care and well-being. Discussions were underway to make suitable arrangements to ensure she receives proper support.
