Cold conditions across Odishasare set to intensify from December 25, with no respite from winter chill expected for the next seven day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
According to the IMD, the departure of a western disturbance is likely to pave the way for dry and cold north-westerly winds, which will further strengthen winter conditions across the state. While no sharp fall in minimum temperatures is anticipated immediately, cold nights are expected to continue across most regions.
The weather agency noted that there will be no major change in minimum temperatures over the next week. However, the overall chill is expected to remain pronounced, keeping winter conditions intact across Odisha.
Fog to Continue for Next Five Days
Fog is also likely to add to the discomfort. The IMD has forecast light to moderate fog at many places over the next five days, especially during early morning hours. Foggy conditions may affect visibility in low-lying areas and along highways.
During this period, one or two districts may record a marginal rise in minimum temperature by around 1–2 degrees Celsius, even as cold and foggy conditions persist elsewhere in the state.

IMD Issues Weather Outlook
Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, said there is very little possibility of any significant change in minimum temperatures over the next seven days. “However, one or two districts may witness a slight increase of up to 1–2 degrees Celsius. Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience shallow to moderate fog,” she said.
