A youth sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a group of people in Kesara village under Sorada police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district on Monday. The injured has been identified as Suresh Panigrahi. 

According to reports, he was returning home from a shop last night when the incident took place. The attack occurred in a secluded area of the village, where he was allegedly surrounded and physically assaulted by a group of individuals.

As per reports, local residents rushed to the spot after learning about the incident and immediately rescued Suresh, who had sustained multiple injuries on his body. He was first taken to Sorada Community Health Centre for preliminary treatment and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as his condition deteriorated.

Assault Linked to Past Dispute Suspected

While the exact reason behind the assault is yet to be ascertained, preliminary suspicion suggests that the attack may have been linked to an old enmity. Reports indicate that Kesara village has witnessed group disputes and clashes in the past, and police suspect that the latest assault could be an outcome of a previous rivalry. 

Local residents informed the police soon after the incident, following which a team from Sorada police station reached the spot and initiated an investigation, reportedly.

Police Investigation Underway

As per reports, several individuals have been detained for questioning in connection with the case. However, the police have not released any official statement regarding the motive or the identities of the attackers. Investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances that led to the assault and to identify those involved, sources said.

Meanwhile, the condition of the injured youth remains critical, and he continues to receive treatment at MKCG Berhampur.
