Odisha is gearing up to observe Netaji Jayanti on Friday, which is being commemorated by the government as Parakram Diwas. Elaborate arrangements have been put in place to mark the occasion, reflecting the state’s efforts to honour the legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

At the heart of the celebrations is Netaji’s birthplace, Janakinath Bhawan, and the adjoining museum at Odia Bazaar in Cuttack, both of which have been decorated for the occasion. Preparations across the entire complex, from the galleries to the garden areas, are now in the final stage, creating a perfect setting for the commemorative events.

Preparations and New Inaugurations

Duttatreya Bhaosaheb Shinde, Collector, Cuttack, said, “Honourable Vice-President has confirmed his participation in the Parakram Diwas celebrations marking Netaji’s birth anniversary. During the event, he will inaugurate a new gallery at the philately exhibition, an exhibition organised by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at the memorial under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, at the Interpretation Centre, and the newly constructed Sanskruti Bhawan.”

As part of the Parakram Diwas celebrations, a Postal Gallery and a district cultural building named after Netaji will be inaugurated. The programmes will witness the presence of several dignitaries, including Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, highlighting the importance of the event at both the state and national levels.

Programme Schedule and Public Access

Laxmidhar Rana, a sculptor, said, “The renovation work is currently underway, and the replicas have been painted. We feel a deep sense of spirituality in being able to contribute to the work of a great leader like Netaji, and it fills us with happiness and pride.”

A visitor expressed his joy, saying that the exhibits comprehensively document Netaji’s life from his birth and early years to his schooling, along with rare photographs. He added that detailed information on the INA, including images of Netaji in uniform, is on display, and that even Netaji’s household items have been carefully preserved with complete descriptions.

Adding to the celebrations, the State Lalit Kala Academy will organise a painting camp. Official programmes will be held at Netaji’s birthplace and the cultural building from 7.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. During this period, entry will be restricted to invited guests only. After the completion of the official schedule, general visitors will be allowed entry to the premises.
