Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia film director Chakradhar Sahu passed away today morning while undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Sources said Sahu was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis and had been suffering from breathing problems for quite some time. After his health condition worsened, he was initially admitted to KIMS Bhubaneswar and later shifted to AMRI Hospital. He was later shifted to AIIMS Hospital.
Sahu was one among the few who tried to popularise art films as mainstream cinema. After graduating from FTTI, Pune in Film Editing, Sahu spent a couple of years in Mumbai.
Dreaming something big, he returned to Odisha and started his film career with "Nila Mastrani" in the year 1996 for which he was felicitated with Odisha State Film Award for Best Editor.
His first commercial success came with “Tumaku Paruni Ta Bhuli” which was released in the year 2008. He was awarded with Odisha State Film Award for Best Director for the movie. Later, he also went on to direct “Kebe Tume Nahan Kebe Mu Nahin”. His latest film 'Meemansa' was released in the year 2016.
Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took to twitter and expressed his sympathy over the demise of Sahu. 'His death will be an irreparable loss for Odia film industry,' he tweeted.
Cine critic Surya Deo said, "Sahu’s demise is a huge loss for me personally and even a greater loss to Odia film industry. His cinematic masterpieces used to contain a beautiful balance between entertainment and real-life events."
