In a shocking incident, a vegetable vendor was brutally attacked by miscreants at the Bajichowk market under Dhenkanal Town police limits on Monday.
According to reports, the attackers first threatened the vendor by brandishing a gun and later assaulted him with a sword, leaving him severely injured and bleeding profusely. The injured vendor has been identified as Dipun Pradhan.
Dipun was initially rushed to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care.

The attack is reportedly linked to previous enmity, with allegations that a group of youths from another market carried out the assault. After committing the crime, the attackers fled the scene.
Meanwhile, local residents managed to seize one of the attackers’ motorcycles and vandalised it. Following the incident, heavy police force has been deployed at the spot to maintain law and order.
"Five to six miscreants came with two to three bikes. We have seized one of their bikes. They fled the scene with other bikes after committing the crime. He attacked one of our elder brothers when he was selling vegetables. They attacked with sticks, stones and swords. He has sustained serious injuries," said an eyewitness.
