Odisha is set to witness one of its largest industrial projects as Vedanta Limited announces a massive investment in the Dhenkanal district. The project, which will involve an investment to the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore, aims to produce 30 lakh tonnes of aluminium annually, marking a significant boost to the state’s industrial landscape.

Vedanta’s Chairman Anil Agarwal shared details of the project following discussions with Odisha Chief Minister (CM) Mohan Majhi. According to Agarwal, once the land acquisition is completed, work on the project will commence within three to four months. The company aims to complete the project within three to three-and-a-half years.

This ambitious project is expected to generate direct employment opportunities for approximately 30,000 to 40,000 people, providing a significant boost to local employment, especially in the surrounding regions.

The Chief Minister has assured that all necessary clearances and land allocations will be expedited, with formalities expected to be completed within a month.

Furthermore, the Odisha government is also actively working to complete the formalities in the Niyamgiri area of Kalahandi district, which is anticipated to benefit from job creation and development linked to Vedanta’s expansion.

In addition to the industrial project, Vedanta’s Chairman reiterated the company’s commitment to establishing Vedanta University in Odisha. Agarwal emphasised that the company will review the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding the university project and reaffirmed that if the university is to be established, it will be set up within Odisha.

This development promises to bring significant industrial growth and educational opportunities to Odisha, bolstering the state’s position as an emerging hub for investment and development.
