In an unusual incident, several vaccine vials were found discarded on the roadside near the Jalakhai area under the Beleguntha block of Ganjam district on Saturday.

The vials, which did not carry any price markings, are believed to be part of the government supply.

The expiry date on the vials is November 2026, raising questions as to why they were discarded when they still had nearly 10 months of shelf life remaining.

The incident has prompted concerns among local residents. However, they remain clueless about who threw the vaccine vials onto the roadside.

Bhanjanagar Sub-Collector Umashankar Behera stated that a detailed inquiry into the incident will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken.

"We will conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident, following which necessary actions will be taken," said Bhanjanagar Sub-Collector Umashankar Behera.

Earlier in December, a large quantity of government-supplied medicines meant for free distribution among the poor and needy was found dumped along the roadside in Gajapati district. The incident was reported near Mohana on National Highway No. 326, triggering outrage among locals and healthcare activists alike.
