Two trucks reduced to ashes after late-night collision on NH-60 in Odisha’s Balasore

A major fire broke out following a collision between two trucks on National Highway No. 60 near Basta in Odisha’s Balasore district late on Friday night. Both vehicles were completely destroyed in the blaze, and traffic movement along the busy highway was disrupted for several hours.

The incident triggered panic in the area as flames engulfed the trucks within minutes of the crash.

According to preliminary reports, a coal-laden truck rammed into a trailer that was stationed on the road. The impact of the collision led to an immediate fire, with both vehicles catching flames almost instantly.

Two Drivers Seriously Injured

The drivers of both vehicles sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were rescued by locals and highway patrol personnel before being rushed to Basta Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said their condition is critical and under close medical supervision.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Authorities have not confirmed why the trailer was parked on the highway at the time of the mishap.

Firefighting Operation and Traffic Disruption

Following the incident, highway patrolling teams reached the spot and alerted the Basta Fire Brigade. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to douse the flames, though both trucks were completely gutted by the time the fire was brought under control.

Vehicular movement on the National Highway was severely affected for some time, leading to traffic congestion in the area.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
