In the aftermath of Cyclone Montha’s landfall, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced the cancellation of two major passenger trains operating between Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana due to the non-availability of rakes and ongoing disruptions across the coastal network.
According to an official notice issued by ECoR, Train No. 22204 Secunderabad–Visakhapatnam, scheduled to originate from Secunderabad on October 29, 2025, and Train No. 12703 Howrah–Secunderabad, scheduled to depart from Howrah on October 30, 2025, have been cancelled.
Railway officials cited “non-availability of rakes” following severe weather-induced disruption as the reason for cancellation and urged passengers to take note of the changes before planning their journey.
The rakes for these long-distance services were stranded or rescheduled due to prior safety measures taken during the cyclone, affecting subsequent train operations. Restoration work is underway to clear debris, inspect tracks, and normalise movement across affected divisions.
61 Train Cancellations Since Cyclone Impact
Earlier, Indian Railways had implemented large-scale cancellations and diversions in coordination with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and disaster management authorities to ensure passenger safety during Cyclone Montha. In total, 61 trains were cancelled over four days:
- 4 on October 27
- 48 on October 28
- 8 on October 29
- 1 on October 30
The list included several key services such as 07166 Bhubaneswar–Hyderabad Special, 17479 Puri–Tirupati Express, and 18464 Bengaluru–Bhubaneswar Prashanti Express, all of which were halted due to unsafe track conditions and waterlogging.
In addition, nine trains were short-terminated or short-originated, six diverted to alternate routes, and nine rescheduled in light of the cyclone’s impact on coastal infrastructure.

Montha Weakens But Rains Continue Over Coastal Belt
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Wednesday morning that Cyclonic Storm Montha over coastal Andhra Pradesh had begun to weaken into a deep depression, expected to further lose intensity as it moved inland toward Telangana and southern Odisha.
Though large-scale destruction has not been reported, continuous rainfall has led to localised flooding and power disruptions across parts of East and West Godavari districts. Uprooted trees and damaged overhead wires have affected road and rail connectivity in several low-lying zones, delaying restoration efforts.
