In a bizarre incident, a primary school in Odisha’s Sambalpur turned into a battleground after two lady teachers started attacking each other, in full view of the students. The physical altercation was reported from Kirba Primary School in Burla, prompting authorities to order an inquiry.
The two teachers involved in the dispute have been identified as Sharmishtha Pallai and Kasturi Jena. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday and later came to light after a video of the clash went viral.
Dispute Over Cleaning Work
According to sources, the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over school cleanliness work. A sweeper had been called to clean the washrooms, and a heated argument reportedly broke out between the two teachers regarding the amount to be paid to the sweeper.
The situation escalated into violence, during which one teacher sustained a facial injury.
Although the issue was said to be minor, the fact that the incident occurred inside a school premises and in front of students has raised serious concerns. It is also being alleged that the students were asked by the involved teachers themselves to record the incident, which later went viral on social media.
Officials Respond, Probe Underway
Ramesh Kumar Mishra, Assistant Block Education Officer, Dhankauda, said that after the video went viral on the 15th of this month, he was directed by the Block Officer, to investigate the matter.

Mishra added that the investigation would be completed soon and a report would be submitted to higher authorities for appropriate action.
The incident has sparked concern among parents and local residents over the conduct of teachers within educational institutions. Officials have emphasised that maintaining discipline and a safe learning environment is paramount, and any behaviour that undermines this will be dealt with strictly.
