Two persons were killed in a road accident involving a passenger bus and a motorcycle at Rathagada Chowk under Athagarh police limits on Wednesday. The mishap occurred when a bus travelling from Athagarh to Cuttack collided head-on with the motorcycle near the busy junction.
Both riders of the motorcycle died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. The deceased were identified as Ram Nayak of Athagarh and Tapas Nayak of Cuttack. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the crash and alerted the police.
According to preliminary information, the accident took place on a stretch known for heavy traffic movement. The passenger bus involved in the mishap was seized by Athagarh police, while the driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Tension prevailed briefly in the area as locals gathered at the site. Police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and a manhunt has been launched to trace the absconding bus driver. Police are also scanning CCTV footage from the area to establish the circumstances leading to the crash, including possible overspeeding or negligence. Traffic movement was restored following police intervention.
