In a major success for Odisha Police, two hardcore Maoists were arrested from the Rourkela Railway Station on Thursday. The operation was carried out jointly by Rourkela Police and intelligence units following credible information about the movement of Maoist operatives in the area.
Active Members of Jharkhand’s TPC Group
The arrested individuals were identified as active members of the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a Jharkhand-based Maoist organisation. Both were reportedly involved in several acts of violence, extortion, and armed movement in Latehar district of Jharkhand. Sources said they had been on the run and were attempting to escape through Odisha when intercepted.

Interrogation and Transfer
Following their arrest, the duo was taken to the Plant Site Police Station in Rourkela for interrogation. During questioning, they allegedly confessed to their association with the TPC and revealed details of their operations in Jharkhand.
Handed Over to Jharkhand Police
After completing preliminary procedures, the Plant Site Police handed the two Maoists over to the Latehar Police for further legal action. Officials said the arrests would help dismantle parts of the TPC network active along the Odisha–Jharkhand border.
A Step Towards Curbing Extremism
Police described the operation as a crucial breakthrough in efforts to curb cross-border Maoist activity. Enhanced coordination between Odisha and Jharkhand Police continues to play a key role in tackling left-wing extremism in the region.
