Two gates of Balimela reservoir to be opened today

Malkangiri: Authorities of the Balimela reservoir here will open two sluice gates of dam to release excess flood water. The gates will be opened around 10.30 am today.

Around 20,000 cusec of water from the reservoir will be released through the two gates causing swelling of the Sileru river, informed sources.

The decision to flush out the excess water was taken following the rise in water level in the reservoir due to rain in upper catchment areas, added sources.

Meanwhile, the district administration has issued an advisory to residents of Doraguda, Gunthawada and Nuaguda panchayats asking them to remain alert following opening of the reservoir gates. However, there is nothing to be panicked about, the advisory stated.
