The fatal incident has raised concerns about safety measures in commercial establishments, especially those handling heavy equipment and customer footfall. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the mechanical failure.

“We received the information that two people were trapped in the lift. After reaching the spot immediately, we saw that the duo had already been rescued. We carried the patients on our stretcher to the DHH in Bhadrak,” a fire services personnel said.

“Internal injuries could be there as they are feeling leg pain. However, they appear to be all right. They were trapped for nearly 20 minutes,” the fire services personnel stated.

“Our sales staff, Mantu and finance staff, Pitambar, had gone upstairs to bring the vehicles. Accidentally, the lift chain snapped. They sustained minor injuries and have been sent to the hospital,” a senior official of the showroom, Sujit Kumar Jena, expressed.

“There is no problem, and both of them are all right. There was a rush in the showroom due to Durga Puja. We have separate staff to bring the vehicles, but they had gone as others were busy. One of them was trapped for nearly 10-15 minutes,” the official added.
