Truck carrying household goods catches fire on NH-353 near Odisha’s Nuapada; crew escapes narrowly

A truck carrying household goods from Raipur to Kesinga was destroyed in a fire on National Highway 353 near Udyanbandh village in Nuapada district early Sunday morning. The incident, which occurred around 4 am, caused extensive damage, with the driver and helper being trapped inside the burning vehicle.

Reports added that after a few moments of the vehicle going up in flames, the duo who were trapped inside managed to jump out of one of the windows.

Eyewitnesses stated that the vehicle was travelling towards Kesinga when flames suddenly broke out near Udyanbandh. Reports said the driver and his assistant attempted to control the fire but were unable to do so. They later abandoned the truck and informed the authorities.

Fire Services Contain Blaze

On receiving the alert, a fire service unit from Komana reached the spot and brought the fire under control after a sustained effort.

Despite their intervention, the truck and its cargo, consisting of various types of household items, were reduced to ashes. Initial reports suggest goods worth several lakhs of rupees were lost in the incident.

Cause And Damage Under Assessment

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Officials have begun an assessment of the losses, though a formal estimate is still awaited. The truck was completely charred in the blaze, leaving only the frame intact.

Traffic movement on NH-353 was disrupted for some time during the firefighting operation before normal flow was restored. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported apart from the destruction of property.
