Triple murder over land dispute: Odisha girl recounts chilling murder of father, mother and sister by uncles

In a horrifying incident in Odisha, a young girl on Monday narrated a spine-chilling eyewitness account of the brutal murder of her father, mother, and sister by her relatives over a land dispute. 

According to the statement of the girl, some of her relatives including an uncle and two others relatives attacked the victims with a sharp axe. The girl pleaded with the attackers to spare her family, but despite her repeated cries for mercy, no one from the neighbourhood came forward to help.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the murders were triggered by a long-standing land dispute involving relatives. The incident occurred when Jitendra Soren’s family was busy cooking inside their house. At that time, his younger brother Laxman Soren, along with relatives Baidyanath Soren and Sudam Soren, arrived at the house and began arguing.

The dispute soon turned violent, and the accused allegedly hacked Jitendra Soren, his wife Malati Soren, and their daughter Mami Soren to death with an axe in an extremely brutal manner.

Witnessing the gruesome killing of their parents and sister, the elder daughter Sasmita and the younger daughter Rani managed to escape and ran to a nearby locality, thereby saving their lives.

Police arrested Laxman last night in connection with the case. Meanwhile, Baidyanath and Sudam, have been detained for questioning. A forensic team has also visited the crime scene and initiated a detailed investigation.

The deceased Jitendra was a driver by profession. He had three daughters and one son. His eldest daughter, who is married, had come to her parental home to attend the Makar festival when the tragic incident took place.

"We had gone to fetch wood. When we returned home, we found Sudam Soren and Baidyanath Soren arguing with my father over land. When they tried to assault my father, my sister prevented them. Then they killed my sister and subsequently axed my mother and father," said the eyewitness girl.
