Police have intensified their investigation into the triple murder reported from Nialijharana village under Anandapur subdivision in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, where three members of a family were found brutally murdered on Friday night. Investigators are likely to carry out a crime scene reconstruction on Tuesday as part of the ongoing probe.
The deceased have been identified as Jitendra, his wife, and their elder daughter. The gruesome incident has sent shockwaves across the area, prompting an extensive investigation by local police.
In connection with the case, Ghasipura police have arrested Lakshman, the brother of the deceased Jitendra. Additionally, two other relatives, Baidyanath Soren and his son Sudam Soren, have been detained for questioning in connection with the killings.
Forensic Team Collects Evidence
Earlier on Monday morning, a forensic team from Keonjhar visited the crime scene and conducted a detailed examination. Several pieces of evidence and material clues were collected from the spot to help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events.
Following the forensic inspection, police recovered the bodies from the house and sent them to Anandapur hospital for post-mortem examination. After the autopsies were completed, the bodies were handed over to family members for the last rites.
Police sources said the evidence collected from the scene is currently being analysed, and further investigative steps, including crime scene recreation, are likely to follow.
Survivor Alleges Land Dispute Motive
The younger daughter of the deceased, who survived the attack, has alleged that the murders were triggered by a land dispute. Recounting the incident, she told the police that after returning home from collecting firewood, Baidyanath Soren and Sudam Soren visited their house to discuss a land-related issue with her father. During the discussion, the accused allegedly attempted to attack him.
She further alleged that when her elder sister intervened, she was attacked first, followed by their mother, and then their father.
