Trader robbed of jewellery worth Rs 4-5L at gunpoint in Odisha

Panic gripped the Kaptipada police station area in Mayurbhanj district after armed miscreants allegedly robbed a jewellery trader at gunpoint on Thursday evening. The incident occurred near Solgadia Chhak when the miscreants intercepted the trader and fired two rounds before fleeing with a bag full of jewellery.

According to sources, the victim, Harish Rana, a jewellery trader, was returning to Udala after closing his shop at the weekly Salachhua market under Kaptipada police limits. While he was on his motorcycle, six miscreants arrived on two motorcycles, stopped him on the road, and fired two rounds in the air to create panic.

Taking advantage of the situation, the miscreants snatched a bag containing jewellery from Harish Rana and escaped from the spot. The trader later stated that the bag contained silver ornaments worth around Rs 4 lakh and gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 2 lakh.

Following the incident, Harish Rana lodged a complaint at the Kaptipada police station. Police reached the spot and have launched an investigation into the matter. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused, and further investigation is in progress.

“They came out of nowhere and gheraoed me. There were six of them in two vehicles, and they opened blank fire before fleeing with my belongings. I had around 3.5-4 kilos of silver, 6 pieces of earrings, 13 lockets and other jewelleries worth around Rs 4-5 lakh,” the victim businessman stated. 

The daylight robbery has raised serious concerns over law and order in the area. Further details are awaited as the police probe continues.
