In a major road accident, a vehicle carrying tourists to the scenic Mahendragiri hills in Odisha’s Gajapati district met with an accident at the Badamasingh ghat area on Sunday. More than 15 tourists sustained serious injuries in the mishap, triggering panic in the region.

According to reports, the injured tourists were promptly rescued and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said that the condition of several injured persons remains critical.

Sources further revealed that the tourists are residents of the Khordha area and were returning after a visit to Mahendragiri when the accident occurred. The exact cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, in a separate road mishap earlier in the day, one person was killed while another was critically injured in a fatal accident on the Cuttack–Paradip State Highway near Kujang market.

According to reports, a Hyva truck collided with a motorcycle carrying two persons around 1 am. The impact of the collision crushed one of the riders, killing him on the spot, while the other sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police are investigating both incidents.
