A tourist went missing after drowning at the Mankadadian Waterfall under R. Udayagiri police station limits in Gajapati district, triggering concern and a major search operation by rescue teams. The incident occurred on Tuesday when a group of youths from Paralakhemundi had visited the scenic waterfall for a picnic.

According to sources, the group was enjoying the outing when some of the youths entered the water to bathe. During this time, one youth reportedly lost control due to strong water currents and was swept away, following which he went missing. Fellow visitors immediately raised an alarm and informed the authorities.

On receiving the information, the R. Udayagiri Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search operation at the waterfall. Despite several hours of effort, the rescue team was unable to trace the missing youth till late evening.

As darkness set in, the rescue operations were called off for the night due to poor visibility and other safety reasons. The operation was resumed early Wednesday morning, with two teams from R. Udayagiri and Paralakhemundi jointly carrying out the search in and around the waterfall area.

Meanwhile, locals and family members of the missing youth remain anxious as rescue efforts continue. Authorities have urged visitors to remain cautious while visiting waterfalls and avoid entering deep or fast-flowing waters.
