Three notorious drug peddlers arrested in Bhubaneswar; brown sugar worth Rs 37L seized

In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized brown sugar worth approximately Rs 37 lakh from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Sameer Khan, Sk Irshad Mohammed, and Munaf Khan. According to police sources, all three are residents of the Jaleswar area in Balasore district. They were reportedly operating in Bhubaneswar and were caught red-handed while allegedly selling brown sugar in the city.

Brown Sugar Worth Rs 37L Seized

“The special crime unit has seized 370-gram brown sugar, the market value of which will be around Rs 37 lakh. Three accused have been arrested in this connection. They have been identified as Sameer Khan, Sheikh Irshad Mohammed and Munaf Khan.

They were under scrutiny and have been finally arrested,” informed Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh.

Broader Network Suspected

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Special Crime Unit conducted a raid and apprehended the trio during the operation. The seized contraband has been confiscated, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the narcotics and whether more individuals are involved in the illegal trade.

Police officials said efforts are on to trace the broader network linked to the accused and to identify possible supply chains. The arrests are being seen as a significant step in the ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the capital city.
