Three eminent personalities from Odisha likely to receive Padma Shri

As many as three distinguished personalities from Odisha are likely to be honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri awards, according to information emerging from national media reports. 

The eminent individuals include noted Santali writer Charan Hembram, literary figure Mahendra Kumar Mishra, and renowned artist Simanchal Patro. Their contributions across literature, education, and art have brought national recognition to Odisha’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage.

Charan Hembram is likely to be conferred the Padma Shri for 2026 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to literature and education. A popular and respected writer in the Santali language, Hembram has played a pivotal role in preserving, promoting, and documenting tribal culture, traditions, and heritage through his literary works. His efforts have significantly strengthened indigenous language literature and helped bring tribal narratives into the mainstream discourse.

Mahendra Kumar Mishra is expected to receive the Padma Shri for his remarkable contribution to literature and education.
