On-Duty Doctor attacked

According to sources, the accused, identified as Bindu Sagar Rout, had brought an accident victim to Capital Hospital after the patient was referred from Nimapada. However, as the Out-Patient Department (OPD) had already closed, the attending doctor advised the patient’s relative to seek treatment at the emergency ward.

Two people injured

This reportedly infuriated the accused, who began verbally abusing the medical staff. The altercation soon escalated into physical violence, during which the accused attacked doctor Janmejaya Mishra with a helmet, resulting in a fracture to his hand. A plaster technician, Ratnakar Bal, who was present at the spot, was also assaulted and sustained injuries.

Accused produced before court

Following a complaint lodged by the doctor, Capital Police registered a case in connection with the incident and arrested the accused. He was later produced before a local court.

The injured doctor expressed concern over the rising incidents of violence against medical professionals. The episode has once again highlighted serious gaps in the safety and security of healthcare workers in hospitals.
