Tension prevailed in Digapahandi block of Odisha's Ganjam district as farmers queued up from as early as 6 a.m. on Sunday in long lines for fertilizer. They queued outside the Chodhury Tikarpada Service Cooperative Society to collect fertiliser. The delay in distribution led to widespread resentment among farmers, who had gathered in large numbers at the site.

According to reports, fertiliser stocks had arrived at the cooperative society last week, but were allegedly not distributed to the farmers. This triggered anger among cultivators, especially since this period is crucial for agricultural activities. Farmers alleged that despite having fertiliser in stock, the society failed to release it on time, adding to their difficulties.

Authorities Cite Limited Stock

Sources from the cooperative society stated that the delay was due to an insufficient supply of fertiliser for all farmers. As a result, they had refrained from distribution until further allocation arrived. The prolonged wait, however, caused frustration among the farming community, who demanded immediate action.

The situation turned tense as the farmers’ outrage grew, prompting the police to intervene. Officials reached the spot, pacified the crowd, and ensured that the fertiliser distribution resumed in an orderly manner.

Following police intervention, the distribution process continued under supervision, bringing temporary relief to the agitated farmers awaiting essential fertiliser for their crops.
