Tata Power engineer arrested by Odisha Vigilance for accepting Rs 20,000 bribe, Rs 9.53L cash recovered

Odisha Vigilance sleuths have apprehended Tusharkant Ray, Executive Engineer (Quality), Circle-I, Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), Bhubaneswar, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor for furnishing a final inspection report.

According to officials, the complainant, an electrical contractor, had installed a transformer for an apartment building and had been requesting the final inspection report from Ray for the past two months to process his bill. However, Ray allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to provide the report. Left with no option, the contractor approached Vigilance authorities, who laid a trap.

On Wednesday night, Ray called the complainant to his residence and later took him to a nearby park, where he was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire tainted amount was seized from his possession.

Following the trap, Vigilance officials conducted simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Ray. During the searches, which continued till early Thursday morning, unaccounted cash of Rs 9.53 lakh was recovered from his residence.

A case has been registered under Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 21 dated 24.09.2025, U/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is underway.
