Kendrapara: Life has been harsh for Anushka Das who is bedridden for the last one year. Once a talented dancer and meritorious student, Anuksha of Kendrapara is suffering from a rare neurological condition and her family is struggling to arrange funds for advance treatment.

On getting information about the plight of girl, BJP national vice-president and former Kendrapara MP Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda on Monday visited Anuhka’s house and assured all possible help for her treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi.

“Local leaders informed me about the talented girl who seems to be suffering from a rare condition. Anushka’s family has requested me to facilitate her treatment at AIIMS. I will speak to AIIMS doctors for a second opinion and will do whatever is required in this regard,” said Panda.

According to the family, Anushka was studying in a class VII and was a multi-talented kid. She has won several awards in dance, Abacus competitions and other events.

It was one year back that Anushka fell sick after complaining of acute pain in her leg. She was admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack and later to SCB, NIMHANS as well as AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Despite several tests, doctors are unable to diagnose the disease, informed family members.

“My granddaughter was diagnosed with some neurological defects some one year back following which she is now unable to walk or speak. She was a good student and a good Odissi dancer as well,” said Anushka’s grandmother Sukanti.

Anushka’s grandfather Pratap Das said, “We do not know who informed former MP Baijayant Panda about the condition of my granddaughter. The MP, who is a social worker, also has assured all help for the treatment.”

“We hope that my daughter will be able to walk and dance after she gets advance treatment at AIIMS New Delhi,” he added.
