In a significant development in the Rs 4 crore cash seizure case, fresh revelations have emerged regarding senior mining official Debabrata Mohanty.
Investigations have indicated that Mohanty was allegedly planning to purchase a luxurious flat in the Sahid Nagar area of Bhubaneswar using a large amount of cash.
Sources said that Mohanty had already paid an advance of Rs 1 crore for the property and was reportedly preparing to complete the deal by paying Rs 4 crore in cash. The alleged transaction has now come under the scanner of the Vigilance Department, which is probing the source of the seized money and the circumstances surrounding the proposed purchase.
In a further development, the Vigilance Department has sought a seven-day remand of Mohanty for detailed interrogation. Investigators believe custodial questioning is necessary to uncover critical details about the cash seizure, the proposed flat purchase, and possible involvement of other individuals.
