Ahead of Diwali celebrations, the food safety team of Berhampur Municipal Corporation carried out extensive raids at several sweet shops in the city on Sunday.
The inspections were conducted to ensure food quality and hygiene standards during the festive season.
As per reports, during the inspection drive, fines amounting to over Rs 1 lakh were collected from various outlets for non-compliance with hygiene and safety norms.
Officials said the action aimed to prevent the sale of substandard or unsafe food items ahead of the festival.
Focus on Cleanliness and Food Standards
More than 50 sweet shops across Odisha's Berhampur were inspected during the drive. Shop owners were directed to maintain proper cleanliness and sell only quality food products to customers.
The officials emphasised that maintaining hygiene and ensuring food safety are essential, particularly during the festive period when demand for sweets rises sharply.
Joint Operation by Civic Teams
The operation was jointly conducted by the Food Safety Team and the Enforcement Team of Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
