Bhadrak: Chandbali (Dhamra in particular) and Basudevpur blocks have been put on high alert in view of the Super Cyclonic Storm Amphan. Bhadrak district administration on Tuesday informed that high-alert has been sounded in view of the high wind impact while massive evacuation drive is also being undertaken at respective blocks.

Bhadrak Collector Gyana Das informed that NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Services teams have been pressed into action and every possible step in being taken for effective management of the situation arising out of the cyclone.

The Super Cyclonic Storm 'Amphan' over Westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 14 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred (0230 HRS IST of May 19) over Westcentral Bay of Bengal, about 570 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 720 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal) & 840 km south-southwest of Khepura (Bangladesh).

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the Super Cyclonic Storm Amphan is very likely to move north-northwestwards across northwest Bay of Bengal and cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts between Digha (West Bengal) and Hatiya Islands (Bangladesh) close to Sundarbans during the afternoon/evening of May 20 as an extremely severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 165-175 kmph gusting to 195 kmph.

"The super cyclone 'Amphan' is now being continuously tracked by the Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

Wind Warning For Odisha Coast

Orange Warning has been issued as squally wind speed reaching 55 to 65 kmph gusting to 75kmph is likely to prevail along and off north Odisha coast and off West Bengal coast from today.

Red Warning: The wind speed will gradually increase becoming gale wind speed reaching 75 to 85 kmph gusting to 95 kmph from May 20 morning along and off north Odisha coast (Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore) and Mayurbhanj.

As per IMD, the wind speed will gradually increase to 110 to 120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph along and off in the above-mentioned districts of north Odisha. Squally winds reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph likely to prevail over Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur districts on May 20 (tomorrow).
