Balasore: Alleging sub-standard work and other irregularities in development of the Fakir Mohan college playground, students and locals today staged demonstration during the visit of Odisha Higher Education Minister Ananta Das to the college.

The students alleged that though Rs 68.1 lakh was sanctioned by the works department for the development of the playground, no work has been done towards electricity connection and drainage systems.

"It doesn't seem Rs 68 lakh has been utilised here as the playground is in no condition to play any game. Besides, we don't think grass will ever grow on this playground," said a student, Sushant Jena.

However, executive engineer of works department (Balasore Division-1), Mahesh Mohanty said that only a few students were seen upset. "Their (students) main concern is grass in the field. Due to lack of water, the colour of grass has turned yellow and at some places it needs to be trimmed," he added.

Meanwhile, admitting the allegations, the minister assured the students to look into the issue. "I have ordered to solve the problems within 30 days. If needed, I will send the chief engineer," said Das adding that an investigation will be ordered if any complaint regarding irregularity is received.
