A huge amount of cash was recovered during an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at the residence of Ganjam district Biju Janata Dal (BJD) vice-president and contractor Hrushikesh Padhi on Friday.
As per reports, cupboards were found stuffed with bundles of currency notes. ED officials were stunned after coming across such a large volume of cash during the search.
Acting on his links, simultaneous raids are underway at around 20 locations across Ganjam district. Based on his connections, ED teams have also carried out searches at the residences of several businessmen in Berhampur city, including areas such as Bijipur, Lanjipalli, Jayaprakash Nagar and near the New Bus Stand.

The raids are being conducted in connection with allegations of tax evasion and financial irregularities involving Hrushikesh Padhi and his associates. However, the ED has not yet issued any official clarification regarding the source of the seized cash.
As per sources, the sand mafias amassed huge amounts of illegal money by obtaining sand leases in the names of auto owners, tractor drivers, and owners of pan and sweet shops. Acting on evidence against six sand mafias in the district, the Enforcement Directorate conducted the raids.
