The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha to complete preparatory work for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, scheduled to begin in April 2026.
In an official communication dated February 19, 2026, the Commission asked Chief Electoral Officers of several states and Union Territories, including Odisha, to expedite groundwork related to the revision process.
SIR From April 2026
According to the letter issued by the ECI, the Special Intensive Revision was first ordered in June 2025 to be undertaken across all states and Union Territories. Subsequent communications in July and October 2025 laid down instructions for initiating pre-revision activities, with the exercise already underway in select states.

The Commission has now indicated that the next phase of the SIR in Odisha and other listed states is expected to commence from April 2026. Officials have been instructed to ensure that all necessary preparations are completed at the earliest.
Ensuring Accuracy
The Special Intensive Revision aims to update electoral rolls by adding eligible new voters, removing ineligible entries, and correcting discrepancies to ensure accuracy ahead of upcoming electoral processes.
With Odisha included among the states covered in the latest directive, election authorities in the state are expected to begin logistical and administrative preparations in the coming weeks.
