SIR in Odisha from April 1, 90% work already done Photograph: (OTV)
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Odisha will begin from April 1, the State Chief Electoral Officer announced on Friday, adding that the process aims to ensure a clean and accurate voter list ahead of future elections.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer, nearly 90 percent of the revision of the voter list has already been completed across the state. Out of the remaining 10 percent, at least 8 percent is expected to be corrected soon, while officials are making efforts to achieve 100 percent revision of the electoral rolls.
Corrections Based On 2002 Electoral Records
A key feature of the ongoing revision is that the corrections will be carried out based on the 2002 electoral roll records. Officials said that if a voter is able to provide the booth number where they cast their vote in 2002, their details can be verified and corrected accordingly.

This measure is expected to help streamline the process and make verification easier for election authorities.
Complete Clean & Transparent Voter Enrolment System
In cases where voters do not have any documentation or details related to their previous voter registration, they will be provided with Form No. 11, which will allow them to apply for corrections or updates in the voter list.
The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized that the primary objective of the exercise is to ensure a completely clean and transparent voter enrolment system. He also warned that if an individual’s name appears in the voter list at more than one place, the person must retain it only at a single location. Maintaining voter registration in two or more places will be treated as a punishable offence, he added.
Election authorities are continuing the revision drive to ensure that the electoral roll remains updated and free from duplication before the next electoral process.
