A disturbing act of animal cruelty unfolded in Bahanada Raghunathpur village under Khunta block in Mayurbhanj district, where a man allegedly attacked a bull with an arrow, causing severe bleeding, sources said on Friday. The incident has sparked outrage among locals.

The injured animal received medical attention after a veterinary team, led by Udayanath Hembram, district youth wing president of the Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan, arrived at the site. Thanks to the prompt intervention, the bull is gradually recovering and is said to be in good health, but a deep wound on the bull’s body still needs medical care.
The incident has raised concerns among villagers and animal welfare activists, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement against acts of violence toward animals. Local police authorities have not yet commented on the fatal arrow attack.
“It was observed that a bull had been struck by an arrow. It seems that an inhumane person had shot the bull with an arrow on Tuesday night. As blood gushed from the bull’s body, it could not stand properly due to pain from the arrow wound,” some residents said.
“The bull was tied up with a rope, and the arrow, which had pierced its body, was removed. Injections and ointments were applied to the wound. After giving the bull proper treatment, it was kept at the backside of a house,” the residents expressed.
“Even during the farming season, if the bull had eaten something in someone’s field, what major harm would it have caused? Yet, a human has acted in an extremely inhumane way, shooting an arrow at an animal that could not even speak,” the residents added.
