In a sensational development, suspicion has fallen on a woman in Odisha in connection with the disappearance of a businessman who has been missing for the past seven years.

According to reports, Chandaka police have taken Rashmita Swain, the girlfriend of businessman Balaram Sahani, on remand in connection with his alleged abduction in 2019. The case, which had remained unresolved for years, has resurfaced following fresh leads, prompting investigators to re-examine the circumstances surrounding Sahani’s disappearance.

Police had arrested the girlfriend from Ganjam about fifteen days ago. She has now been taken on a one-day remand as police attempt to uncover the truth behind the seven-year-old mystery.

Even after all these years, there has been no trace of the missing businessman. Police are investigating where the lover is, what exactly happened to him, and why the girlfriend allegedly committed the act. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the facts surrounding the long-unsolved disappearance.

The family members of both Sahani and Swain are currently at the police station. However, no comments could be obtained from them.

As per sources, both Sahani and Swain, who were in a love relationship, had gone missing in 2019. However, Swain returned home, but Sahani remained missing.

"She (Swain) has been taken on remand. It was an old pending case. As we have focused on investigations, we are also investigating old cases. After the review of the case, we discussed with the family members again. The suspect was arrested and interrogated. Subsequently, she was taken on remand for two days. Further investigation into the case is currently underway," said Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena.
