Kendrapara: Police imposed Section 144 in Kendrapara town today after palpable tension prevailed between two groups at Government High School ground.

According to sources, tension surfaced between two groups over organising a public event at the ground. After getting the news, a police camp was set up near the spot. Apprehending trouble, Kendrapara SP Niti Sekhar soon imposed Section 144 across the town and made the announcement through a microphone. Later, 6 platoons of police force were deployed and a flag march was conducted in the town.

On the other hand, in an attempt to control the situation, the local administration convened a meeting of the peace committee.

As per latest reports, normalcy has returned in the area and the local administration has informed that no government programme will be held at the ground.

"Situation is under control now but we will keep a strict vigil tonight and the entire day tomorrow. We will not allow anyone to disrupt peace in the town," Kendrapara sub-collector, Sanjay Misra said.

Kendrapara SDPO Rajeev Lochan Panda said, "Those who were planning to organise a program didn't have permission. Those who used to play on the ground had raised objection due to which they was some disagreement."

Later in the day the district blocked internet services in the area on account of the tension. Moreover, the ADM has also declared closure of all educational institutions in Kendrapara municipality.
